This decadent design from Pop Princess is inspired by the ballet, Swan Lake, featuring both a prince and princess swan gliding elegantly through crystal waters of their kingdom. The overall silhouette features an airy, delicate softness of gathered chiffon and the tailored fit of a corset bodice as seen on many ballet dancers.
The bodice is created from a blend of light blue cotton silk that shimmers in the light. The skirt fabric itself is a heavier oxford cotton, linen blend that gives a lovely but heavier drape to the overall design.
This bodice features delicate princess seams at center front to create an elegant tailor and fit against the body, accented by decorative top stitching and a scalloped trim. Thin satin ribbon weaves through the trim at the princess seams. Boning has been inserted into these panels to allow for a tighter fit across the waist and bust.
A satin bias was carefully turned and stitched at neckline, swooping over the shoulders, and turning into adjustable straps with sliders. Pearls were then looped onto gold wire and attached to create a pearl chain that is removable with gold lobster clasps.
Chiffon was carefully gathered and ruffled across the neckline for a soft finish, accented by a simple satin ribbon at center front. The center front of the bodice was then covered in over 50, 1/8 inch white glass pearls, stitched by hand one at a time to create a diamond like texture.
In the back, three rows of elastic allowing for the ease and comfort of a shirred center back, while yards of satin ribbon weave to and fro tying neatly into a bow at the waist. The ribbon is carefully threaded through the scalloped trim to create the appearance of a corset like effect.
The skirt features one center panel of 4 layers of tiered chiffon accents that gently swish across a simple white satin fabric. Each chiffon strip was cut, carefully serged with a narrow hem and then pressed. Each piece was then gathered, pinned, and stitched before the panels were joined to center front and center back side panels.
The skirt is gathered at the waist and is cut with more of a cupcake shape, with 4 distinct gored panels, showing off about 4 plus yards of fabric, and can fit up to 2-4 petticoats depending on their size and shape.
This dress is fully lined. All seams have been finished with either a French seam or Hong Kong bias, with additional serged edges. An invisible side zipper allows for easy on or off. The generous hem was finished with a simple top stitch.
(Note: The chemical laces, particularly the scalloped edge, is delicate. Please be careful, and do not pull too tightly on the ribbon as this will cause the lace to fray or break. It is merely meant as delicate decoration, not for tightening the bodice. Dyed laces may not be perfectly even as they are hand-dyed)
